“FASHION”
A VIRTUAL EXHIBITION

Fashion is both a language and a medium of communication. It is shaped by a confluence of aesthetic, social, and political forces, with the garments we choose to wear acting as potent markers of cultural identity. These are not simply utilitarian; they reflect our position within the broader context of history, society, and time. Through the continuous evolution of textiles, design, and craftsmanship, fashion assumes a central place in the formation and reconfiguration of the self.

The development of fashion is inextricably linked to the trajectory of civilisation. As societies have evolved, so too has the role and significance of clothing, transitioning from a basic necessity to a sophisticated mode of self-expression. The introduction of novel materials, the expansion of global trade, and the shifting preferences of emerging social classes have all contributed to the ways in which clothing intersects with personal and collective identity.

Fashion is not static, nor is it confined to appearance. Fashion is, therefore, not solely an external signifier of style, but a complex articulation of the narratives of gender, class, and power. It encapsulates the aspirations, anxieties, and realities of those who wear it, serving as a mirror to the essence of the times.
